French Language and Cultural Courses
« Polish up your French and your knowledge of France » A 3 week intensive course of French in a language institute specializing in teaching French to foreign students. At the end of your course you will receive an official certificate and detailed reports which may help you to get credit points for your university degree. This language course is preceded and followed by a cultural stay of 10 days in Paris offering courses on French history, art, architecture, all of which are followed by guided visits to the main museums in Paris and cultural outings (theatre, café-theatre, cinema).

Day 1: Sunday 29 December
- Arrival in Paris and settling in youth hostel located in the historic heart of Paris
Day 2 : Monday 30 December
- Welcome and presentation of the programme
- General Business & orientation session
- The History of Paris from the Romans to the 16th century
- Presentation of the French press
- Welcome lunch on the place du tertre in Montmartre
- Guided tour of Montmartre
Day 3 : Tuesday 31 December
- Discussion on the visit to Montmartre
- Presentation of Sainte Chapelle, Conciergerie & Notre Dame Cathedral
- Presentation of the films to be seen
- Oral presentation by students of selected press articles
- Guided visit of the Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie & visit to the very recently renovated Notre Dame Cathedral
- Evening : cinema
Day 4 : Wednesday 1 January
- Discussion on the visit to the Sainte Chapelle, Conciergerie & Notre Dame Cathedral
- Presentation of the French Impressionist School of painting
- The history of Paris from the 17th c. to nowadays
- Preparation of the play to be seen
- Oral presentation by students of selected press articles
- Guided tour of Musée d’Orsay
- Evening: Café-theâtre play
Day 5 : Thursday 2 January
- Discussion on the visit of the Musée d’Orsay

Evening: Boat cruise on the Seine
Day 6 : Friday 3 January
- Exceptional visit of the Palais du Luxembourg or Bourbon Palace on the invitation of a senator or member of parliament.
- Discussion on the visit to the Louvre Museum
- Presentation of the French Political System
- Oral presentation by students of selected press articles
- Evening: Cinema
Day 7 : Saturday 4 January
- Presentation of streets of Paris and their architectural face
- Preparation of afternoon visits
- Oral presentation by students of selected press articles
- Choice of visit offered to students ex: Exhibition, Museum, Cultural Center, Père Lachaise cemetery, Basilica Saint Denis,..
- Evening: Free
Day 8 : Sunday 5 January
- Visit of one of the main markets of Paris street markets
- Departure for Vichy in First Class train
- Welcome by the representatives of CAVILAM team – Alliance Française and by your home-stay hosts for your stay in Vichy
Day 9 to Day 27
- 3 weeks of intensive French courses organized by CAVILAM-Alliance Française, a language institute specialized in teaching French to foreign students
- Group classes in the morning and thematic workshops in the afternoon
- Stay with a host family
- Organisation of sports, cultural and social activities
- Rest of time with host families.
Day 27 : Friday 24 January
- Return to Paris by train after class
- Welcome in train station & transfer to Hostel by Taxi
Day 28 : Saturday 25 January
- Discussion on the stay of the students in Vichy
- Presentation of the Palace of Versailles
- Preparation of the play to be seen
- Oral presentation by students of selected press articles
- Guided tour of the Palace of Versailles
- Evening: Theâtre
Day 29 : Sunday 26 January
- Morning assessment session : individual presentation
- Farewell lunch in a art-deco restaurant
- After lunch free to leave late-afternoon, but accommodation has been reserved and paid for until Monday morning.

Both parts of this programme include intensive use of French together with closely linked cultural activities.
Each morning there will be a preparation in French of the day’s activities, together with what has been done and seen the day before.
Every day a different theme is offered : for example, Paris in the Middle Ages, French Impressionism, the French press, the French political system…Each day a student will be asked to present an article of his/her choice in one of the main newspapers to be followed by discussion.
In the Language Institute specializing in teaching French for foreigners, you will have :
- Intensive courses of French (about 220 hours in all)
- A thematic workshop in the afternoon
- Cultural activities in the evening
- Excursions during the weekend
- Family accommodation allowing you to practise your French
On the first day you are given a test which allows you to be placed in a group corresponding to your level of French. Then you will have 18 days of intensive language course work (26 courses and workshops per week).
